Streets Run Red

about

As we continue to navigate these times, we bring you “Streets Run Red”. This song was written two years ago and originally slated to be on our last album “Coming to Light”. It ultimately didn’t make it onto the record for sonic reasons. Honestly, I was hoping there would never be a need to release it but that was naive to say the least.

Yet here we remain, in a time where the systemic culture of racist, anti-black violence continues to rear its ugly head. DAILY. For generations. And now especially.

Let’s face the facts: white dudes singing reggae music about black oppression. I recognize and can appreciate the irony in that. I’ve always believed artists have the duty of using their platform to spread awareness on issues they care about, and that is what I am doing now. This song is about SPEAKING UP and STANDING WITH our brothers and sisters of color who have faced intense inequality since the conception of this country. I feel so blessed to have a community of people who are open to hearing our views in the form of music, and it is so important that all of us non-black folks make the appropriate changes in order to really make a difference. There is nothing in this world that is going to make that difference except LOVE, UNDERSTANDING and HONESTY. Let’s be truthful about where we are. Let’s be truthful about where we want to go. Let’s be the change. I hope you enjoy the song and please, continue to take care of one another.

The song is available now for free exclusively on Bandcamp, Soundcloud, and YouTube. Please donate what you’d like to on Bandcamp with all proceeds going to providing micro-grants to black musicians.
